About Us

Our Story

Big Oak Restoration began in 2010, when founder John restored a single vintage glider for a family member. What started as a simple project quickly grew into a passion—and soon, a business built on craftsmanship, care, and a deep respect for timeless design.

Over the years, Big Oak has restored hundreds of vintage gliders, chairs, patio sets, and rare mid-century finds. With each piece, we’ve gained knowledge and skill that only comes from hands-on experience. That expertise ensures every restoration is done with precision and care, preserving the integrity of the original craftsmanship while making it strong enough to last for generations.

Today, Big Oak Restoration is known for rare, one-of-a-kind pieces that simply can’t be replicated. Whether you’re restoring a family heirloom or looking for a unique addition to your home, we’re here to help you preserve the past and bring beauty into your everyday space.

Restoration the Big Oak way

When we receive a piece for restoration, we start with a thorough inspection to assess its condition and identify any structural issues, damage, or weak points. From there, we fully disassemble the item, carefully removing and discarding all old nuts, bolts, and components.

If needed, the parts are chemically dipped to remove layers of paint, rust, and other contaminants. Repairs—such as welding or patching—are completed to restore the integrity of each piece.

Next, the item is sandblasted to ensure a clean, even surface for finishing. One of the most critical steps is powder coating: the metal is pre-heated, coated with an electrostatically charged powder, and cured in an oven at temperatures reaching up to 400 degrees. This process creates a beautiful, highly durable finish designed to withstand years of use and outdoor exposure.

Finally, we reassemble the piece using all-new stainless-steel nuts, bolts, and hardware. After a final detail cleaning and inspection, your restored item is ready—revived, resilient, and built to last for generations.
